You will not be reading anything out loud. You bring a partner, the two of you connect on our recording platform, and you talk about whatever you would normally talk about. Both of you are recorded, in audio and in video, at the same time.

Your link opens your account setup on our recording platform. Pick a password, type the 6-digit code we email you, and you are in.

There is no fee to join, no kit to buy, no deposit, and no reason for anyone here to ask for your banking passwords. Money only ever moves in one direction on this project, and that is to you.
If anyone claiming to be from Spirelight asks you for money, it is not us, and we would like to know about it.
40 USD for every hour of recorded dialogue. Two people make that recording together, so each of you gets 20 USD for that hour. Each person can record up to 2 hours in total, which is 40 USD per person, or 80 USD for a pair recording their full allowance together. Payment is released after your recording is reviewed and accepted.
Native Malay or Indonesian speakers only, meaning you learned the language as a young child, as your first language. Speakers who learned it later have an accent the recordings cannot use. The whole conversation has to be in that one language, with no English words mixed in. There is no age, education or experience requirement beyond that.
Yes. Sign up now, read your guide, and then ask a friend, family member or colleague who is also a native speaker to sign up with their own email. You need a partner to record, because the whole point is a conversation between two native speakers, but you do not need one to get started.
A laptop or a phone with a working microphone and camera, a pair of cheap wired bud-type earphones, and a quiet room. There is no software to install and nothing else to buy. The full checklist, including the things that fail a recording, is in the guide we email you.
Yes. This project records audio and video together, and your face has to be visible, centred and facing the camera for almost the whole recording. Your recording partner never sees your video, so only the camera sees your room.
By bank transfer in USD, EUR or GBP, by PayPal, or by Wise to Wise with a WISEtag, which is the cheapest option for everyone. If a transfer to your country would need SWIFT, ask us first and we will usually find a cheaper route.
Spirelight is a registered Danish company, CVR 44262509, at Ingrid Marievej 49, 2500 Valby, Denmark. We have been producing speech data for AI teams for years, and this site is the same company. We never charge contributors a fee and never ask for banking passwords. If in doubt, contact us through the main site first.
